皆さんこんにちは。
ニュージーランドはスクールホリデーも終わり、最後の学期のTerm4が始まりました。
学期が始まって早々、学校ではテストの嵐だそうで、軽く愚痴っぽくなる娘です。
学校で「空騒ぎ」の作文を書くことになりました
そんな折、娘の学校の英語の授業で“Much ado about nothing”の作文を書くというものがあったそうです。
なんという奇遇でしょうか、スクールホリデー中に母語学習の一環で日本語での作文を書いたばかりです！
「じゃあホリデー中に日本語で書いた作文を、そのまま英語に直して提出すればいいね！？」
と早速娘に提案しましたが、
「うーん、あれはちょっと…」
とあんまり乗り気でない娘。
どうしてそんなに乗り気じゃないのかなと不思議でしたが、この英作文を読んで納得しました。
というか、こういう内容で日本語での作文が欲しかった(笑)
娘は家での日本語の作文ではかなり本音ベースで書いたり、少しおちゃらけたりするのですが、学校での作文、こと成績に関わるとなると、途端に目の色を変えて真面目モードになるんですよね。
まぁ母語教育での作文は内容というより、話の展開がスムーズに行われているのかを重視しているので、これはこれで良いんですが。
そんな訳で、英語版の「空騒ぎ」の作文をお楽しみください！
【英語版】海外在住の中学1年生の作文「空さわぎ」
“Much ado about nothing”. This film is based on the story written by William Shakespeare, and it is a film dedicated to love, friendship and deception. Now in this play Deception plays an important role because it helps Beatrice and Benedick fall in love with each other, and thanks to that the other characters learn that people can change with enough love.
Love and Deception seems like an unlikely pair, but behind all the drama it holds an important connection. Deceiving others means that you are lying, or in other words, telling something that is different from the truth.
Additionally, loving something means that you are lying to yourself that you love someone so much that you can spend all your life on that single person. This also can mean that you are betraying your life for something that you like.
In this way, we can say that deception and love– which in other ways, we can say as deception and betrayal– are very similar to each other. We just don’t notice all the things that they have in common, but when we think about it taking our time, we can realise how closely packed Deception and Love is.

ちなみにこの作文は個人で仕上げるものではなく、グループでのタスクなんだそうです。
そして上の英文は、起承転結の「起」に当たる部分だそうです。
他の「承転結」は他のクラスメイトが担当しているとのこと。
娘はこの作文を1時間くらいでササっと終わらせていましたが、それでも良くまとまっているなと親バカながら思ったりしています。
